In our sober fourteenth episode, we tackle subjects such as new computer accessories; finding time for Diablo III; Ray’s garden mishap; hey, weren’t those Nickelodeon shows great?!?; Alex screws everything up at work; and in our latest Book Club recap, we talk about the life of ‘Seinfeld’ and why everybody hated Susan. This podcast meets all OSHA standards under part 1910.25, “Portable wood ladders.”

Our lucky thirteenth episode opens with some light game talk; apologies punctuated by plugs; Alex trades one smoke for another; home maintenance and other tips for country living; the tale of the indolent internet guy; a striking coincidence; nut punch torture, and the first proper installment of our Book Club! It’s an Alex-heavy episode, but don’t let that discourage you from clicking on every single thing in our attractive sidebar! This podcast has a 5-cent redemption value in West Virginia.

Y’all got that Ya-ku-mo?

Oops! Remember that article about embittered expatriates living in Japan that Alex said he would post in episode 10 or thereabouts? Well! He’s super sorry and here it is: “Brainwashed” Foreigners in Japan, which was originally linked to in a comment on his blog by a nice young man by the name of Jayson Young. The article is by an anonymous reader of the Japan Probe and is insightful for foreigners trying to find a niche in the country while avoiding the pitfalls of the self-entitled dickface.

In our caffeine-fueled twelfth episode, we discuss Alex’s further adventures in illness; confusing Bronson Pinchot’s roles; classic television and kid komedy; confusing Brad Garrett’s sexuality; yet more Final Fantasy talk; Alex’s further adventures in settling in; moderately anticipating Dragon Quest X; the Week of Sandwiches; convenience store best practices; Internet humor and the podcast hosts that gripe about it, and turning the ignition on our Book Club. This podcast can get lawns looking lush in just one week.

The No More Whoppers Book Club: ‘Top of the Rock’
This week begins our NMW Book Club. If you’ve listened to the last two episodes, you’ll know that we’ll be reading Top of the Rock by Warren Littlefield, an oral history about the formation of NBC’s biggest shows during the late ’80s and most of the ’90s during the “Must See TV” period. As two guys who have way too many NBC sitcom drops on the podcast, the release of the book was a lovely coincidence for us.
We invite you to grab the book and read along with us. Listen to the show to keep up on what chapters we’re reading, and if you want to join our discussion of the book, feel free to leave us a message on Twitter or our new Facebook page and we may even read them on the show.
But because of our lead time in recording, we’ve already talked about the first two chapters alone. To make sure we don’t leave people out, if you want to share your thoughts about a chapter, feel free to read through Chapter 4 of the book right now and tell us what you want to before our next recording date, May 18, where we’ll be discussing chapters 3 and 4.
Donate to No More Whoppers!

if you look to the sidebar on your right, you’ll see that we finally put up a Donate button. A couple of listeners wanted the opportunity, and that’s a couple enough for us to go ahead and do it. We do have some outstanding expenses that would be nice to take care of someday, so if you enjoy the show, please lend a hand and give us some money through PayPal. Thanks!

After a brief outage, we return! Our electrifying eleventh episode finds Alex’s eyes swimming in disease; Ray goes to Taco Bell; out and about in Kota and requisite Japanicana; Alex is a quitter; a sniveling round of apologies; good food quickly; Bic Camera offers to take pictures as they will last longer; Alex eats Italian food with a genial Californian; Ray proves an unwitting contestant in Alex’s quiz show, and dust off that library card — it’s the No More Whoppers Book Club! Taking photographs of, with, or near this podcast is strictly prohibited.

Click the title link to get access to a Spotify playlist of almost all the songs used in our episodes (talk to Spotify if you’re disappointed that the certain Japanese/video game/TMBG songs Alex uses aren’t on there). Ray will try to keep it updated as new episodes roll in.
A rookie mistake led to a terrible recording of what would have been NMW #011, but that’s OK, since it probably wasn’t that great anyway. Nevertheless, we didn’t want to leave you in the dark, so we spend a few dozen minutes talking about what we talked about, which was mostly Final Fantasy XII again. After that, please enjoy a brief skit on the harsh realities of today’s job market. See you in May!
